Shabbat Services

Our Congregation holds services every Friday evening and Saturday morning throughout the year.

On the 1st Friday of each month the service begins at 7:30 p.m. and includes the participation of the Adult Choir (from September through June) and a sermon delivered by the rabbi. An Oneg Shabbat follows the service. On the other Friday evenings of the month the service begins at 6:30 p.m. and ends at 7:30 p.m. Prior to the service those attending gather for "Snack and Schmooze" and then enter the synagogue singing lively Shabbat niggunim (melodies) to enhance the celebrative aspect of Shabbat. During the service the rabbi delivers a brief D'var Torah, an exposition of a classic Jewish text or concern. The 3rd Friday of each month is designated as a Family Shabbat Service. During the school year various classes of our School for Jewish Living participate. The rabbi shares an instructive story. The liturgy is conducted from a simpler prayer book that has been created for our Congregation. From October through June the Family Shabbat Services are followed by a Shabbat Dinner.

Shabbat Morning Services are held weekly at 10:00 a.m. and are always followed by a Kiddush.

Pease check the Home Page for specific information on this week's services.

Oneg Shabbat, "Snack & Schmooze" and Kiddush

A wonderful custom of Jewish life is gathering together before or after a religious service for sociability. Each of our 1st Friday services which begin at a later time than all other Fridays is followed by an Oneg Shabbat. These are hosted by various members of the Congregation and are coordinated and scheduled by Sisterhood. The Oneg Shabbat features delicious refreshments and a time for greeting old and new friends. An Oneg Shabbat can be hosted in honor of a special Simcha such as a Bar Mitzvah, Bat Mitzvah, child naming, wedding anniversary, forthcoming marriage, etc. Check with the Temple Office for the most current weekly schedule of services.

On all other Friday evenings of the month when our service begins at 6:30 p.m. there is a brief "Snack and Schmooze" period from 6:00 to 6:30 p.m. in Cohn Hall. Healthy foods are served to provide some nourishment for those attending before they make their way home after the service.

Saturday Morning services are followed by a Kiddush. On those weeks when a Bar Mitzvah or Bat Mitzvah is celebrated the Kiddush is hosted by the family of the honored individual. At other times it is hosted by various members of the Congregation. Challah and wine are served along with other delicacies. To schedule hosting a Kiddush, please contact Rabbi Kohn.
